Mapping the Landscape: A 50 Year Dialogue with Art + the Community
on view now through September 19, 2025
1 Civic Center Cir., Brea CA 92821
Brea Gallery and Brea's Art in Public Places invite the community to explore one of California's most enduring public art programs. Rather than a look back, this is a living conversation-- between artist and viewer, city and space, past and future.
For 50 years, Brea's Art in Public Places Program has partnered with world-renowned artists to transform the City into an open-air gallery. Now, in this celebratory year, the Brea Gallery is proud to host 11 artists from Brea's Art in Public Places Program that speak to the vision, themes, and techniques behind those familiar works from around the city. Featuring selected works by Marlo Bartels, Laddie John Dill, Gerard Basil Stripling, Christopher Puzio, and Marsh Scott, paintings and mixed-media works by Dixie Friend Gay and Sally Russell, sculptures by Bret Price and Marton Varo, photographs by Susan Zoccola, and a special look at Brea's very own collection of paintings by Carlos Terres.
This exhibition is an opportunity to reflect on the art that has mapped Brea's landscape over the past 50 years-- and to continue the dialogue between art and community that has shaped and still shapes, our shared story.
Visit us Wednesday - Sunday from 12:00 to 5:00 PM
