Training

The Training Division develops, tracks, schedules, and audits new and ongoing training for our law enforcement officers and professional staff.  This Division ensures that departmental requirements, state mandates, and required specialized trainings are consistent with the California Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST).  Many of our officers are POST Certified Instructors, in a variety of areas and topics, allowing us to train in-house and realize a significant cost savings.  Nearly every member of the Brea Police Department attends training(s) specific to their particular position and/or rank. Law enforcement training is a career long endeavor and much of this training is considered “perishable skills” and needs to be refreshed on a regular basis.

Law enforcement training is a career long endeavor and much of this training is considered “perishable” and needs to be refreshed on a regular basis. To keep our officers current with legal changes and enhance their communication skills when responding to calls, we are committed to providing them with training over and above what law requires. Recently, we incorporated Cultural Diversity, Crisis Intervention/De-escalation and Implicit Bias/Racial Profiling training into our regular training practices.  Additionally, we recently sent four of our officers to instructor training to allow them to conduct training in-house on the newly mandated POST course, Force Options/Use of Force.
