Landscape Improvement Projects Starting Soon

Landscape improvement projects for the medians on Lambert Road, from Pointe Drive to Kraemer Boulevard; parkways on Associated Road, from Lambert Road to Sleepy Hollow Lane; and medians on Associated Road, from Birch Street to Imperial Highway, are currently out to bid. The new landscaping will include low-water-use plants like agave, aloe, lantana, and bougainvillea. Landscaping work is anticipated to start later this month.

Prior to the landscape work, diseased Liquidambar trees were removed from the medians. In all, 41 trees were removed on the Lambert Road medians and 30 trees on the Associated Road medians. New low-water-use replacement trees will outnumber the removals on the medians with 48 new trees on Lambert Road and 33 on Associated Road. In addition to the new trees, irrigation systems will be retrofitted to drip systems, and new low-water plant material installed. All of the projects are expected to be completed by mid-September.

COVID Community Update

In the past few weeks, the City of Brea, like the rest of the region, has seen an uptick in COVID-19 cases. To be exact, there have been 134 confirmed cases in Brea since July 20. At the same time, the number of residents getting the vaccine also continues to increase. As of August 3, 64% of Brea residents have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

In response to the rising COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations, last week the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) updated their Guidance for Face Coverings. The new guidance recommends mask use for public indoor settings to slow the spread of COVID-19 and the delta variant. For example, masks are required for all individuals on public transit, indoors in K-12 schools, childcare settings, shelters, healthcare facilities, and congregate settings. Masks are required for unvaccinated individuals, and recommended for fully vaccinated individuals, in indoor public settings and businesses. More details can be found here. To keep our community safe, please continue to follow recommended health guidelines.

COVID-19 vaccines continue to be available to those ages 12 and up. There is ample supply and several ways to find an appointment convenient to you. Visit the Orange County Health Care Agency’s website for a list of options. Vaccines are also available through your health care provider, along with hospitals, health clinics, and large retail pharmacies. Thank you for doing your part to keep our community safe!

Sports Park Field Renovation Completed

The Public Works Department completed the Summer Sports Park Field Renovation Project for soccer field #4, which is one of the larger and most used fields at the park. This process included scalping the existing turf, leveling the field with 55 yards of topsoil, and overseeding the field with a grass seed mixture of Rye and Bermuda. A top-dressing was also added, which is an organic mixture of seed, fertilizer and mulch, that helps establish seed growth. The summer renovation of the soccer field benefits the community and the sports user groups by keeping the fields safe, looking nice, and playable year-round.
